I walk up to the camera wearing my shorty wetsuit and flip-flops, holding my vintage oval mask, snorkel, and fins. I take off the flip-flops, slide my fins on, fit the mask over my face, snorkel in my mouth, and start walking around the pool in full diving gear for a bit, my fins slapping against the ground with each step. Then I climb the stairs and descend into the pool. I’ve always been afraid of putting my head underwater, but today I decide to face it. You’ll see all the real, unfiltered moments as I try to go under. The mask protects my eyes and nose, and the snorkel allows me to breathe, but I’m still vulnerable. I leave in the video all the awkward moments as I try again and again. I keep going. Slowly, I start feeling more safe and more confident. I begin swimming with the fins, testing how they feel.
